You Can Check Out Anytime You Like, But You Can Never Leave

UPDATE below…

Supposedly, the Koran says, “There is no compulsion in Islam”. At least that is the verse they throw up in the face of detractors when questioned about the screaming terrorists crying “Convert or Die!” So does it only apply to the great washed and shaven masses of the just conquered? Or does it come later? The rules seem to change constantly. I guess so it’s like the convenient revelations – just read Robert Spencer’s and you’ll know what I mean.

So, if there is no “compulsion”, what’s up with the Lina Joy story in Malaysia? (h/t Gates of Vienna) No compulsion, but if you’re born a Muslim, well, you’re just stuck. You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave (Eagles/Hotel California).

In Islam, you can’t rise above your raising. If you’re born into a Muslim family, then Muslim you are, despite any experience you may have that runs contrary to this edict.

The latest ludicrous display of the Muslim Medievalists took place in Malaysia, when an ethnic Malay woman presented her baptismal certificate, proof of her years of study of Catholic theology, and a request to have “Muslim” expunged from her national identification card so she could marry her fiancé, who is a Roman Catholic – as she presumed she was until the court decided otherwise.

According the WSJ article that Dymphna cites

“Ignoring Lina Joy’s years of Catholic study, church attendance, and the baptism certificate she presented as proof of her sincerity, Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim said in his decision, “You can’t at whim and fancy convert from one religion to another.”

A whim? Years of study, service, attendance, baptism? A whim? Dymphna rightly says

That’s an interesting slant on four years of study: her religious faith is a “whim.” If anything ever operated on the whim theory, it is Sharia Courts. What a farce.

Faith and worship are both intensely personal decisions. Either it feeds your soul, inspiring spiritual growth or it destroys you from within. Well, there you go. There’s plenty of illustrations of that side of the coin.

Compulsion. Women. Lies. More Lies. Just another day in the Muslim neighborhood.

Another interesting item concerning women and Islam and SPORTS is (h/t PJM) the mysterious cancellation of the Iran/Germany women’s game planned for two years.

The first game took place on April 28, 2006 and was the first proper match the Iranian women had ever played against other footballers and in front of fans. The players — one side in red the other in white — all played with specially designed sports headscarves. Only women were allowed into the stadium, and they all screamed their lungs out — the result was 2:2. Normally the female players are only allowed to train in sports halls — and without an audience. And Iran’s many female football fans are not allowed into stadiums.

Ok, a team that practices, but never plays?

Even better, female suicide bombers don’t even get equal treatment in Paradise! (again, h/t PJM)

…Asked by an Israeli reporter whether self-detonating ladies enjoy the same 72-virgin deal as the lads, an Arab scholar explained that no, but the gals will be served in Paradise by “dwarfs.” Snow White got seven dwarfs, but it’s unclear whether Blow White will get the full 72…

But I digress…a bit…

Dymphna has the best parting shot – using Muslim-based-non-logic, of course!

So…logically, if ethnicity equals religious faith, then all of you with Irish or Italian or Spanish ancestry had better get ready for confession and begin learning to sing “Ave Maria.” The Pope is coming to getcha – and it won’t be pretty.

UPDATE: More info – “Pyrrhic victories, indeed.”
