Obama’s Onion Soup Recipe

I have my favorites. Frequent readers here know who I read and link the most.

American Digest, written by Gerard Vanderluen is the best of the best. Today he writes that Obama is the onion from Peer Gynt.

When you peel off all his layers of signifying and symbolizing, of blathering and bamboozling, Obama is — it must be said — simply lacking in the elemental qualities of manliness necessary for the Chief Executive of the United States of America. Obama is like the onion in Peer Gynt. Once you strip off the layers there’s nothing in the center.

Nothing. Vapor. Oblivion. Anti-matter. Sheer emptiness that might rival the rim of deep space.

What is essential to me when I think about who deserves my vote is whether or not the person for whom I’m voting has the right stuff to lead this country. Right up at the top of that list for me is manliness. And by that I do not mean a quality exclusive to men. Rather I mean the old-fashioned values of courage and the ability to do the right thing, the strong thing, under pressure – regardless of the consequences. Those who do not know what I mean by “manliness” by now will never know it, but by way of example I’ll cite the most recent President to possess it, George Bush.

The manliness of Bush is, regardless of the perverted souls who look upon him as the source of evil in the world, really not open to question. Some would say that it is, perhaps, too much with him, that he should have been a more subtle player in the fields of power politics. That’s for history to decide in the long term. The short history is that nobody has attacked America on its home soil since September 11. This is not an accident. This is because there was, in the minds and hearts of our many enemies, no doubt as to what might happen to them and their countries if such an attack had come. No doubt. None. Niente. Nada. Zero. Zip. The only question was whether the Bush response would be in the form of an airborne division or a small, man-made sun being brought to life about 5,000 feet above their capitol city. This is not a bad question for our enemies to have in mind. The question itself keeps the terrible answer at bay.

The leftards sneer about the Crazy Cowboy, but let’s briefly review. Bush kept us safe and salvaged our economy without goosing any interns. Despite the help he has spread around the world, the world still hates him and everything he stands for. He is a brave man to face down these weasels, all day, every day. Does Obama have the backbone to do the same?

But a wider world awaits the next President; a world that can kill 3,000 Americans at their place of work in a single morning. A world that wants to see, more than anything, the destruction of American hegemony so that their dreams of conquest can go forward unabated.

After thousands of years of crawling up from the swamp of totalitarianism we can see, at last, in the distance a world where this ancient nightmare is removed from the world. But we cannot get there if America does not stand.

Again. The world cannot rid itself of the terror of totalitarianism if America does not stand.

For that to happen we need to have a leader — man or woman — who possesses real, demonstrated courage. For that to become true we need to have a leader who has — man or woman — real manliness.

Obama is intelligent, charming, good-looking, stylish, well-educated and slick. He’s everything that other people who value such surfaces look for… not in a leader, but in an icon. And that’s what they’re buying by buying Obama, an icon. A glowing plastic post-modern Jesus for the dashboard of their Prius. They know, as we all know by now, that he can talk the talk. He just can’t walk the walk. He’s soft talk and no stick.

I keep coming back to the one indisputable fact first spoken in Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech: “There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you … in places where winning means survival and defeat means death.”

One of those places where defeat means death is in the Oval Office on a very bad day.

Just to be clear, I’m not saying Obama is not a man. He’s just not man enough for the job.

One reason the leftards hate Gov. Palin so much, is that she’s right and they know it.

Obama’s election to the Presidency is a recipe for disaster. And no crying over a pile of rotten onions will save America from the onslaught that awaits.

Quite the Little Despot

The Anchoress has the most interesting readers. One, from Pennsylvania (the home of bitter-gun-clinging-redneck-bible-thumpers), emails over his discomfort with the coming Ascension:

Dear Anchoress:

An observation about Barack Obama that bothers me enough to write somebody an email.

Barack Obama said during the first debate that he would sit down and talk to Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism, without preconditions because he did not believe in the notion that by not talking to people we are somehow punishing them.

Then when a Florida TV reporter asks his VP candidate, Sen. Biden, some questions he didn’t like, their campaign cuts them off and refuses to talk to them or grant any further interviews.

So, Barack Obama is willing to sit down and talk with the regime that gave the order for the bombing of our Marine Barracks in Beirut but not willing to talk to an American TV station because of a few tough questions.

Politicians all make contradictory statements; it’s almost impossible not to considering all the speeches they make. But this is different. This is a case of actions speaking louder than words. His cutting off of that Florida station is a preview of how he will act as President. Will he be this vindictive towards all Americans who don’t agree with him or his administration? Cutting off that station but still being willing to talk to a terror sponsoring regime also reveals a certain naiveté, or worse, an unacceptable level of moral relativism.

This, combined with his going back on his word about public campaign financing, I think, are a true measure of his character.

She passed it on, and so should you. The difference of exactly who warrants the receipt of Obama’s Words From On High is frightening. Again, The Anchoress:

He’s the guy who spends over half a billion dollars to win an election because he could not keep his word about public funding. He wants to ’share the wealth’ and he wants to talk about ‘fairness’ – but he doesn’t have any moral qualms about outspending his opponent by $518 million, thanks to a dishonorable flip-flop which – it must be said – his GOP opponent did not copy.

He’s a guy who spends half a billion dollars on electioneering while talking about how to help the poor and the downtrodden. Note – he does not share his wealth. Someday he’ll drive past those downtrodden and give them a thumbs up for keeping it real, as they stand in their lines full of “shared” discomfort.

[…] He’s quite the little despot, ain’t he? I thought he – like Bill Clinton – would be too tall to be a despot, but he’s belying that old canard.

The entire world wants Obama to win. Even the terrorists want him to win. Word on the street is that bin Laden will crawl out of his cave sometime in the next few days and endorse His Boy.

In the meantime, HRH posts on Daily Kos that kitman is alright by him. America – wake up!
