Hometown Hero, Bronze Medalist

While I was off hanging out in DC, Elana Meyers, 2002 graduate of Lithia Springs High School and 2006 graduate of George Washington University, won a bronze medal Wednesday night at the Vancouver Olympics. The only metro Atlantan at the Olympic games this year, she switched from softball to bobsled in 2007. When God closes a door, He opens a window somewhere.

The team’s times are here. Awesome.

Her teammate Erin Pac voiced concern over the Whistler track (Republic of Georgia luger Nodar Kumaritashvili died the first day of the games) and praised their coaches for not only calming their nerves but helping them overcome the track and weather conditions.

Of course, us locals are very proud! Watch Elena’s interview with 11-Alive.

When I told my daughter, another LSHS graduate, about Elana’s family, she said “Of course, that family always does amazing things!”

Throw this girl a parade!

More Cowbell

The Obama ship is sinking fast and even more cowbell won’t save it.

Between “the trophy” and the Death Stare, Obama had a rough day. His agenda is on life support.

Most Americans don’t even believe anything he says anymore.

Well, we all know that in “prepared remarks” Obama will say just about anything. He said he had no interest in taking over GM, just before he took them over. Anytime he says he is not interested in doing something, that’s usually about the time he does it. In his world words mean what he says he means.

Here’s one change I bet he wasn’t expecting: most Americans now believe the government is a threat to their rights.

The silver lining is the GOP had its best day in years…yesterday…thank’s to the Obama Kabuki Theater.

Post Party Summits

This is a great idea – keep the momentum going!

Erick at RedState:

American Majority is one of the groups I heartily endorse every chance I get. It is not Democrat. It is not Republican. It is conservative.

American Majority is committed to training people to run not for
Congress, but for local office — farm team building. These guys are terrific and their training is the best I’ve seen in a very long time.

Then there is Smart Girl Politics, one of the fastest growing activist groups in the country. I’m a big fan.

Today I’m delighted to announce RedState is teaming up with American Majority and Smart Girl Politics for some post-party summits. At a time when Americans are losing their allegiance to political parties for the sake of parties, we’re focusing more and more on ideas and ideals. The group that makes the best case for its ideas will win.

It is not enough to stand on the sideline and it is not enough to protest — conservatives must learn how to implement freedom and liberty on the ground in their communities. With the right tools and training, conservative activists can be successful in taking their community back to the principles of limited government, individual freedom and the free market.

In the era of post-party politics, it is essential that the limited government movement have knowledge of and the ability to implement the tools of 21st century political engagement. These regional summits are going to give attendees the tools they need to go home and win. If you are looking to become more politically effective, attending one of the Summits is a must!

Across the country we are going to team up, collaborate, and work to win. We’ll start in Pittsburgh, PA on April 23rd. Then we’re off to Jacksonville, Denver, Indianapolis, Boston, Kansas City, and Charlotte.

Find out where we are and get more details if you are interested in attending. Together, we will take back America.

Whoot! Whoot!

What Is Wrong With This Picture?

Fausta explains. Good grief! Hello!?! Is anyone in charge with half a brain?

Frank Gaffney at Big Government smells a rat,

The Obama administration’s determined effort to reduce America’s missile defense capabilities initially seemed to be just standard Leftist fare — of a piece with the Democratic base’s visceral hostility to the idea of protecting us against ballistic missile threats. A just-unveiled symbolic action suggests, however, that something even more nefarious is afoot.

Do As We Say, Not As We Do

Politics is just high school, but with bigger egos.

Those Democrats, you’ve just got to hand it to ’em. Being two-faced is a hard job. Just ask any catty bad-girl cheerleader. Not only does it take constant attention to remembering all the lies you’ve told, but keeping up with what you said to whom. Just like the mean-girl back-stabber next door, but with a government expense account, government provided health care and military air transport at your beck and call.

Rewind a bit and remember how upset the very same Democrats with Republicans over “the nuclear option.”

In 2005, the Senators were piling shame on Republicans for using Reconciliation, also known as the Nuclear Option. Note that Republicans DID NOT use Reconciliation. The video follows some history on Reconciliation and the Nuclear Option.

Maggie does an excellent job of explaining it all. Watch the video here (sorry it won’t embed.) And be sure to notice that first guy in the video along with Joe Biden’s telling quip,

“I pray God when the Democrats take back control we don’t make the kind of naked power grab you are doing.”

Comedy gold.

Today, during the summit-snoozer, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) shone like the new boy who just moved in down the block. Sen. John McCain, on the other hand, didn’t have such a good day.

True to form, while the nation was distracted by fluff and bother, the CIA was weakened. Which weakens us all.

And just as the bell rings, we see Newt is just the same big flirt he’s always been. Make up your mind already.

GQ in the CPAC Blogger’s Lounge?

Evidently they slunk through Blogger’s Lounge like “Medea,” aka Susie Benjamin. By the way, Caleb Howe is her new BFF.

But the real news here is Team Stacy/Smitty made GQ for their stylish renderings of gentlemen’s head coverings.

Well done, fellas!

FLOTUS Causes Musician’s Strike: News at Eleven

Harry Connick, Jr. no less. He of the deepest dimples and bluest eyes. Dreamiest dish on a stick.

Her fashion sense is bad enough to scorch entire planets; now she’s weighing in on musicians. Isn’t it bad enough her husband has tanked the economy? Leave the musicians alone! Caught Him With a Corndog laments:

I’m reading an article about Harry Connick Jr. performing and promoting ‘the powers of music’ at the White House with some elementary kids when I read this Mobacca nugget of wisdumb:

“These guys aren’t just playing music and earning money and performing, but they’re also community leaders, too,” Michelle Obama said.”

Red calls it the “C” word.

Can I just say it? I can not stand Michelle Obama. Worst First Lady evah. I am thoroughly sick of the word ‘community’. If ever a word has worn out its welcome it’s this one. ‘Community service’, ‘community leader’, ‘community program’, ,’community coffee’, ‘community’ BLEAH. I’m over it. All I hear is ‘communism’, ‘socialist’, ‘higher taxes’, ‘affirmative action’, ‘entitlement programs’, etc. The word ‘community’ can be summed up in the sentiment, ‘Everybody’s a winner’. Gag me.

Yep.

Musicians everywhere should be offended and boycott expense tennis shoes…oh wait, most musicians can’t afford expense tennis shoes. School music programs go without or are cut completely. Most of the symphonies across America are hurting or closing their doors thanks to the ruined economy. No auditions to fill empty chairs because there is no money to pay the salaries. Without patrons, contributions, even an audience for concerts, their music will die.

Way to go Mr. & Mrs. Obama. If everything is about community, community, community, why do you twist everything to being about you?

Various and Sundry Post-CPAC Stuff

Stacy lists the reasons why he’s not been asked to speak at CPAC yet.

Jimmie worked on his “beads” collection.

Nice Deb is so…well…nice.

I wonder if Vanderleun’s ears were burning Friday night…

Fausta gets right back to work with her Latin American/Caribbean Carnival.

John Hawkins has an exhaustive round-up (three, actually) and still managed to make the trip with car trouble.

I scored some books from Sean. Now I just need the time to read them.

Tom McLaughlin has a great camera. Check out his photos, starting with this post and work your way back.

Leon at RedState could feel the love; 1994 was in the air.

I had to soak my feet, too, Val.

And in closing, DaTechGuy’s thoughts of a Free Cuba brings tears to even my eyes. We’ll all head down to Miami with boxes of Kleenex to dance a gig with Val.

Shameless Self-Promotion

I’m a contributor over at the new blog, Potluck, the brainchild of Jill at Pundit & Pundette. All women, all opinionated, all the time. Get Give it a try. [See I told you I was tired! Admin.]

Jimmie of The Sundries Shack is promoting it, as well as Troglopundit. Both fine men who knows what’s good for them.

Fellow contributor, Carol “The PhotoShop Empress of the Galaxy” of No Sheeples Here says

CPAC10 Rewind

No idea even where to start. The weekend was definitely a sensory overload (remember that I am the bear of little brain) so it will take a while to process it all.

Met some new BFF’s (be sure to check out their blogs and send them some linky love):
Baldilocks
Babalu Blog
Kate
Neb Deb
Barbara Espinosa
Bettina Inclan
Tom McLaughlin
and many more…

Ed Morrissey won the Blogger of the Year Award.

Nice Deb was prolific with her camera.

Fausta was the best roommate evah.

I liked Marco Rubio at the RedState gathering last year; now I like him even more. And that was before Val started his story-telling.

There was noticeably more enthusiasm this year. From the ground up. The liberals/Democrats are running scared. That’s a good thing.

There’s more…much more, but the sleep-deprived, over-caffinated buzz I’ve been riding on for the last three days is about to crash.

“If you don’t leave liberals sputtering with rage, you’re not doing it right.”

Coulter rocks CPAC.

It’s Come To This

(h/t HotAir Headlines)

Amazing things come to light when you’re out of town.

Atlanta Progressive News, distant relation of Creative Loafing, has released senior staff writer Jonathan Springston.

In an e-mail statement, editor Matthew Cardinale says Springston was asked to leave APN last week “because he held on to the notion that there was an objective reality that could be reported objectively, despite the fact that that was not our editorial policy at Atlanta Progressive News.” [Emphasis Admin]

The MSM mindset is trickling down to the smaller publications and America is the lesser for it.

About That Prayer Life…

“Prayer Life” was one of the many, many topics over dinner last night with the girls (Baldilocks, Fausta, Little Miss Attila). Included was our new friend, Kate, who blogs at a columbo-americana’s perspective. She considers us all

…giants in the US blogosphere…

Gee, if I’d known I was dining with giants, I would have worn taller shoes. At least I’m taller than Joy. Oh, wait, everybody is taller than Joy….

Welcome to the brood, Kate!

UPDATE: Joy spilled the beans. I think Gerard needs to make a command appearance, don’t you?
