Slightly Famous, Once Removed: The One-Up

My CPAC buddy Sean Hackbarth, called my Slightly Famous, and raised me a NYT Row Behind.

The 1000th Post

So what should I talk about?

How about TeaPartyGirl takes on Mutant Nostril, and wins?

Or The Daily Show is actually reporting stuff the LameStreamMedia ignores?

Or Zippers, A Man’s Best Friend? Georgia Edition. Florida Edition.

Or Obama’s Safe-School Czar pushing child-porn? Why is this a surprise?

Or Madam Boxer, confused again?

Or Obama refuses to be photographed with world-class lawnmower? Oh wait, that’s an F-22, but how would he know?

Or The Goracle was sooo looking forward to Copenhagen, when, ooohhh nooooo, run away! Run away!

Or Lance and Duane are both nice guys?

Or Erick the Erickson wins a much deserved award?

Or, I don’t know, some football game tomorrow?

So much to talk about. So many people talking. About anything and everything. But a 1000 posts later, I’ve made some good friends, had some great late night talks and even won an award once.

Awww shucks! Group hug! Here’s to the next 1000 posts!

A Dip That Doesn’t Drip

On Thursday, we turn our thoughts to food. Glorious food. Those who have met me in person (CPAC! Yeah!) know I’m not some twig-like wraith. In fact, I entered the Mrs. Chins Beauty Pageant and Chili Cookoff just a few weeks ago. With a giant storm just over the Alabama line and barreling our way, we turn our thoughts to warm, comfort food. Stuff that will sustain us when the roof blows off.

Some years ago, Obi’s dear wife and my dear sister-in-law had a short-lived but enlightening entry-level job with Natalie Dupree. Those who have lived in Atlanta for a long, long time, will remember Ms. Dupree from the Rich’s School of Cooking and her own ill-fated cooking show on GPB. I say ill-fated, because every week’s episode produced some type of epicurean disaster and a big mess in the studio kitchen. Her tag line was always, “Well, yours will look better than this…”

The one good thing to come from her stint in that wreckage was a recipe that SIL refined and made her own. So much so, it is a stable of family gatherings.

Hot Crab Dip

1 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
1 Tablespoon milk
6 1/2 oz. crab meat, drained
2 Tablespoons finely chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon horseradish
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/3 cup sliced almonds

Mix all ingredients except almonds and turn into a lovely ovenproof crock. Top with almonds. Bake at 375 F. for 15 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Enjoy with crackers, toast or just a big spoon because it doesn’t drip.

Oh, about that drip… Stacy will tell you all about it him.

Machine Gun Preacher

Every Saturday, The Other McCain puts up an excellent weekly roundup. At the end of this Saturday’s is a plea for help for Sam Childers, the Machine Gun Preacher.

When God needed a born fighter to save children from the vicious monsters of Joseph Kony’s LRA, it was this two-fisted son of a Pennsylvania steelworker who got the call. “Pastor Sam,” as he is known, had worked hard all his life to build his own million-dollar construction firm — and then he gave it all up to go help children in Africa.

Read the whole thing and then help out Preacher Sam as generously as you can!

Random CPAC Decompression – Part The Second

Some days I wonder if Michael Steele is off his meds. The lovely Melissa Clothier (whom I met Thursday night) has more.

I am definitely Twitter-challenged. My posts aren’t showing up and neither is my picture. Sigh. Another task for a day when more braincells are firing.

Maybe I could wear one of the new ribbons, dude; something in chartreuse, say, for… I don’t know, I forget….

You had to be wanded to get into Geert Wilder’s speech, even though you could see him openly in the restaurant earlier in the day.

Fred. Fred. Fred. Why did you leave me, O Fred? His radio show with wife Jeri launched today.

Fausta, of the cool shoes & CPAC roomie, has her Monday Carnival up.

Hummus is not my friend. Skye said, “Try the hummus, it’s delicious!” And yes, it was. For a while. It’s ok sweetie, you didn’t know and I didn’t remember. The mind is the first thing to go, you know. At least no whipper-snapper called me nasty names.

Two things of note on the way home:
1. Saw Tim & Mary Pawlenty at the airport having some quiet one-on-one time before heading home. And yes, they stayed that way.
2. Read 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper cover to cover on the flight.
3. Got home before the airport closed. Judging from Twitter, a lot of people didn’t.

Ok. So that was three. Like I said, the mind is the first thing to go.

Random CPAC Decompressions

Ok, first of all when I ran into the fellow who knew Obi in college, he was NOT dressed in the yellow chicken suit. That was another guy who was Doug’s roommate for the weekend. Obi’s friend now works for a cruise line that puts together conservative cruises. If you’re interested and book a cruise, mention “Obi’s Sister at CPAC 2009” and I’ll get a commission, or something.

Sean Hackbarth knows everybody. I mean everybody.

Note to self: I must find out where Fausta got those walking shoes. Skye brought along the most fab shoes of all.

Speaking of Fausta, she was a terrific roommate and gracious hostess to this first time CPAC’r. I can’t thank her enough!

People that work in DC must never sleep.

Erick Erickson’s favorite food blog is Smitten Kitchen. Go look and see why.

I’ve added and/or updated links for all the folks I met in the blogroll. Now, blogs with an asterisk (*) denote I’ve met the author(s). Everyone I met was very nice and just as p-o’d as I am about what is happening in our country. While everyone wrings their hands over the impending demise of the republic, I saw hope for the future in the line for Ann Coulter’s book signing on Saturday. A dad, Harry had brought his sons along with books in tow. The boys, Isaiah and Sam were shy and adorable. Sam is home-schooled and Isaiah goes to a private school. Both have courses in politics, listen to Rush and Sean and then more discussion at home. When I asked what they thought of their dad bringing them to an event like CPAC, they looked down at their shoes like little boys do. Finally Sam said, “It’s good.” Good answer – short and to the point! They had come all the way from Massachusetts. They are our future, folks.

Note to self: I need either a better camera or one that I can work without needing my reading glasses.

Stacy is practicing Rule 5, again. He turned out to be a delight in person as well as another Georgia native. A showoff and a man with a plan to rule the blogosphere.

Jimmie is a big fan of The Anchoress as well.

More later (I feel like Dumbledore, slowly filling his pensieve)…

Home from CPAC

CPAC – Newt, Erick and a Big Yellow Chicken

Fausta, ever the social butterfly and networking queen, is off yet again and I’m sitting in THE chair.

Feet are better today, thanks for askin’. Highlights of today so far was an intimate blogger’s breakfast with Newt and then a session on Building a Conservative Coalition Online with Mark Tapscott, David All, Ralph Benko and Georgia Boy Erick Erickson. Great ideas and great discussion. Many of which I will start introducing here at Obi’s Sister in the days to come. But back to Newt for a second. He is just an engaging up close and personal as he is when he’s getting the rock star treatment. Because I’d heard him this morning and was searching for some cell signal in this cavernous hotel, I skipped the SRO big speech. The line to just get in was hundreds deep.

Where to even begin? There is SO much to process at every turn. It is so good to know that I’m not alone in my disgust and disbelief at the current state of affairs! The general mood here is high frustration and a determination to get the message out that not only Obama, but all the liberal lackies drafting in his coattails will wreck us all. And our children and their children and their children.

In the ultimate small-world moment, I even met a guy last night who knows the infamous Obi. Someone in a yellow chicken costume is walking around with a huge check for $1 billion to Goldman-Sachs. Snort.

In the meantime, the world continues to turn and our enemies grow braver. Those who want to kill us and rape our daughters have a gift for Dear Leader. And his ego grows bigger by the day – soon it will become it’s own federal agency.

First CPAC Post – Ouch!

3.5 hours in and my feet are killing me already!

There is so much to see and do and hear – it is truly overwhelming. Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) is speaking now and just quoted Samuel Adams -the one about it doesn’t take a majority to rule, but a pesky minority that constantly acts up (para-phrased, of course!).

I’m sitting in this chair, right now!

Earlier, I attended the Media Malpractice session by John Ziegler. During the session, he showed the entire, UNCUT post campaign interview he did with Sarah Palin. This is the same interview that caused a media storm a few weeks ago when some snippets where shown in the usual MSM outlets.

John would show Sarah videos of different interviews (Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson, Katie Couric) and different media “interpretations” of her during the campaign. At times, she said it was her first viewing. Other times you could see the hurt on her face – especially when the attacks were on her children.

Practically every answer, sentence, aside utterance was twisted and misreported to fit the MSM’s agenda. She said that her office STILL gets calls on the “is Trig really her baby?” idiocy. She contacts papers to for corrections – nothing happens.

She said during this election cycle, something happened – there was a shift in society and in the behavior of the MSM. Forget fact-checking or balance. The new rules are harsh, unfair and unbalanced. If reputations are trashed or children are harmed – who cares? As long as the ratings are good – let’s make something else up!

The saddest part is that (she and John discussed this at length) if she’d been picked as Obama’s running mate, she’d have been handled with kid gloves.

Oh, for something completely different, I learned about The Rule 5 of Blogging.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Besides the project from H E double-hockey-sticks and my usual fire-on-fire life – I am prepping for an out of town trip! I’m going to CPAC tomorrow! Hopefully I will be able to post a few snippets while I’m there.

I am simply overwhelmed with what is available during the conference. It’s just three days, but the agenda is already inspiring me. I hope this bear of little brain can manage it all.

Pray for me. I hate to fly.

P.S. Stay up to date with the Atlanta Tax Protest. The first Atlanta event is this Friday, at the Gold Dome.
