Fausta has a great round-up. Pat and Jill both weigh in on the coward that is the mayor of NYC.

What Mayor Bloomberg doesn’t realize, is HE will be the first one they come for. Because the Muslims believe they conquered him, personally, as well.

America Invaded. Move Along, Nothing to See Here – UPDATED: Hoax? Final UPDATE: Yes, HOAX.

(via Memeorandum)

Digger at The Cypress Times reports:

The bloodbath continues along our southern border and now word is coming in that Los Zetas, the highly trained killers formerly with the Gulf Cartel, have crossed into the United States and taken over at least two ranches in the Laredo, Texas area. I am receiving word that the owners of the ranches have evacuated without being harmed.

Anonymous sources in law enforcement in the Laredo area tonight have passed on word that US law enforcement agencies are in the area and are weighing their options regarding the ranches. The media has been silent on this incident and some law enforcement in the area says that they are furious that the media is not reporting the whole story of the continued violence along the border. Their frustrations are understandable because keeping the truth suppressed continues to hamper law enforcement from receiving the true support they need along the border.

The ranch assaults come on the heels of attacks in Nuevo Laredo that shut the city down as a gun-battle raged in the streets. Los Zetas blocked off intersections with vehicles and used fragmentation grenades to attack Mexican law enforcement. In the end 12 were killed and 21 injured in the assaults. Citizens in the area were told to stay in their homes and bullets whizzed all around.

[…] The U.S. Consulate went on to say, “The consulate confirmed that fragmentation grenades were used in the attacks and that suspected drug-gang members had blocked several roads, adding that it advised ‘all U.S. citizens in Nuevo Laredo to remain indoors until the security situation improves.’”

US Citizens in Laredo called 911 after hearing gunfire and explosions just across the border. Laredo police spokesman Joe Baeza deflected the concerns of citizens with what I see as utter contempt. He said there was no spillover violence onto the US side and “We were getting reports from people who live on the river’s edge that they could hear gunfire and explosions from the Mexico side,” Baeza said, “We didn’t have any incidents on the American side. It’s hard for people to understand who don’t live here … They’re not Vikings, they’re not going to invade us, it doesn’t work that way.”

Let’s see if all the elements are here: “…deflected the concerns of citizens…” Police minimize citizen’s concern. Check.

“…US law enforcement agencies are in the area and are weighing their options regarding the ranches.” US Border police piddle about, unable to make a decision. Check.

“…some law enforcement in the area says that they are furious that the media is not reporting the whole story of the continued violence along the border.” MSM ignores the news, because: 1. It doesn’t fit the leftist narrative, 2. There is no one available at JournoList to aid and abet the invaders. Check.

Even worse:

The Los Zetas are highly trained killers initially trained by United States Special Operations forces to combat the drug cartels within Mexico.

An act of war? You betcha! Where’s Holder? Where’s Clinton? Where’s Obama? Is anyone there?

DiggersRealm has more, with multiple updates. Background here, including some speculation about the news blackout. Digger is too kind to give the current regime the benefit of the doubt as to WHY this news is being squashed or WHY there has been no immediate and decisive retaliation to this attack on American soil.

Attention Candidates, Sign This Petition to Show Us You Are Serious About Protecing America

What Could Go Wrong?

Afghan military personnel go AWOL from Lackland AFB. 17 in total, over the last two years. No Sheeples Here:

Seventeen Afghan military men training to become pilots at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas are listed as AWOL, as reported by Learning English at the Defense Language Institute as well as training, the Afghan officers and enlisted men possessed military identification and security badges which would grant them access to U.S. defense and military bases, prompting the nationwide alert.

Chief of Public Affairs at Lackland AFB, Gary Emery said “I can confirm that 17 have gone missing from the Defense Language Institute. They disappeared over the course of the last two years, and none in the last three months.”

The date of the alert was not noted. One must ask what prompted the alert now if the disappearances have occurred over a two year span, and none in recent months.

What Is Wrong With This Picture?

Fausta explains. Good grief! Hello!?! Is anyone in charge with half a brain?

Frank Gaffney at Big Government smells a rat,

The Obama administration’s determined effort to reduce America’s missile defense capabilities initially seemed to be just standard Leftist fare — of a piece with the Democratic base’s visceral hostility to the idea of protecting us against ballistic missile threats. A just-unveiled symbolic action suggests, however, that something even more nefarious is afoot.

Denial is the New Pink

Tabitha Hale, declares 2010 The Year of the Citizen. (h/t The Other McCain)

This past year was a wake up call. Congress isn’t doing anything unprecedented. They are doing what any law making body does when they aren’t being held accountable – they are doing what’s best for them. The thing about Americans is that we want it our way, and we only let ourselves get pushed around for so long. Then we get angry.

What happened over the past year is the result of Americans hitting a breaking point. The encroachment on our liberty did not begin with Barack Obama, and this discontent has been brewing for a while. The amount of money being spent and the absurd power grab coming from Washington defy everything that we stand for, and Washington has finally met some resistance. Now we enter a new decade with country-reshaping legislation hanging in the balance, leaders who will not listen, and a whole punch of pissed off gun and religion clingers. So what comes next?

Democrats in Congress have been clear about their intent to “reshape” America. Republicans – while surprisingly strong throughout the health care debate – are still not quite getting it. In order for the GOP to gain any ground this year, they’re going to have to figure out how to work with the grassroots instead of treating us like wayward children who have been off having a tantrum. Serving tea at an RNC pizza party does not a Tea Party make, Michael Steele, and if you want the Tea Party movement to “come home” you’re going to have to first acknowledge that it would not exist if Republicans had done their job in the first place. [Emphasis – Admin]

Bob Belvedere goes on:

I think you also have to factor-in the fact that the Congress and the current Administration are also populated as never before with committed Leftists. These people are driven not so much by a desire to maintain their perks and influence, in the traditional political sense, so much as they are driven by a desire to bring about the implementation of their vision of heaven on earth—the immanentizing of the eschaton. They have found THE ANSWER to all of the world’s ills and they intend to apply whatever means are necessary to achieve this end.

Dear Leader is rooting them on, from the links or the sidelines, wherever he can hide. Since our national media won’t report on his many failings, this new “first” must come as a rude surprise: Obama lost more jobs in one year as President than any other modern President. His disastrous financial policies have only thrown gas on the fire. He has broken practically every campaign promise. He can’t speak extemporaneously. He surrounds himself with lackeys, unable to think independently, much less patriotically. But worse of all, he literally sucks at national security.

MI5 knew about Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (the NW 253 foiled suicide bomber) three years ago. The Saudi’s briefed a senior WH official in October. Airport officials LIED to America about an additional arrest on the flight.

On the horrific attack on the CIA base in Afghanistan, Erick believes Obama is making his worse mistake yet, and that’s saying a lot!

To you and me this may not seem like a big deal. But I’m told this is hugely significant and shows just how out of touch the Obama administration is with the intelligence community. I’m told that no other President has issued such blanket statements of public mourning directed toward an attack on the CIA and thereby having the White House itself confirming an attack on our intelligence community.

The intelligence community is licking its wounds right now and Obama’s rush to confirm for the world that the community suffered such wounds has the intelligence community simmering tonight and Al Qaeda preparing a PR blitz with what they view as good news.

Obama was briefed on terror threats prior to leaving for his Christmas vacation. After a couple of hasty “voting present” statements from his tropical paradise, I have to ask, WHY IS HE STILL IN HAWAII? Leave Michelle, the kids, the handlers, the posse at the posh digs – COME BACK TO WASHINGTON. YOU ARE THE PRESIDENT – ACT LIKE IT.

Denying there is a problem will not make it go away. Mark Steyn:

The president can’t tell an allegedly alleged suspect (which is what he is in Obama fantasy-land) from an enemy combatant (which is what he is in cold hard reality). But worse than the complacent cop-show jargonizing was a phrase it’s hard to read as anything other than a deliberate attempt to mislead the public: The president referred to the Knickerbomber as an “isolated extremist.” By this time, it was already clear that young Umar had been radicalized by jihadist networks in London and fast-tracked to training in Yemen by terror operatives who understood the potentially high value of a Westernized Muslim with excellent English from a respectable family. Yet President Obama tried to pass him off as some sort of lone misfit who wakes up one morning and goes bananas.

Again, this pathological denial only shows weakness. In fact, it enboldens our enemies. Do you really think they will spare you or your family when they overrun Washington/Hawaii/Chicago/where ever you are hiding?

It’s telling though, that Obama believes his real enemies are at home, not abroad. His warped worldview, perpetual campaign mode and politicization of everything down to the WH toilet paper is wearing thin on Americans. The “Blame Bush” mantra is getting old. As Nice Deb quips, We are being governed by children:

Lying, petty, hypocritical, finger-pointing children who do not have grown up priorities.

To make matters worse, this clueless administration just let another one go, free as a bird. How long until he repays the kindness? The in-com-pe-tence is staggering! And if you disagree, well, you’re the problem.

Sowing division is Obama’s specialty. He portrays himself as the only serious, responsible person in the room, and contends that any criticism of him or his policies is motivated not by what’s best for the country but by petty politics or something even worse.

I am so tired of this crap.

UPDATE: Hot off the RedState press, Erick notes a troubling article from the London Telegraph: The entire world can see his political machinations. This emperor really has no clothes.

The incompetence of the US intelligence bureaucracy is not the only thing that makes Underpantsgate so damaging for Obama. More serious is his failure to understand or acknowledge the nature of the enemy – and to view war as mere politics.

2010 Dawns a New Year – Updated

And new hope that America can be saved from the approaching evil.

The Anchoress is known for her predictions – she has an interesting set this year. While there, read her take on the ‘Dems kill the DC voucher program’ debacle. Every issue for this administration boils down to politics.

Even the Georgia Governor can’t help it. [UPDATE II: From PP’s comments, fishtail dubs Sonny a “Sonnycrat, a one-person political party, himself.” How apropos. Seems that’s the political fashion these days.]

Paco has the White House transcript of the might-have-been Obama/Napolitano discussion immediately following the foiled Christmas day terrorist attack on NW 253. At least it is better than Obama’s original fluff. Rest assured, we are in the best of hands.

P&P has the year in pictures. Gee, just her shoes would pay two months car payments!

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection has only been blogging for a year – but he writes like an old pro! If you’re not reading him daily, you should be.

The Other McCain and The Camp of the Saints both begin the new year at new digs. Check them out.

No Sheeples Here continues to delight with pictures that are worth a thousand words.

Gerard asks the timely question, “Where do we get such men and why do we deserve them?”

Dear Gerard, despite what our government may believe, there are still men and women who love America, the promise of liberty, the freedom promised all by our Creator. You are one; I am another. There are many more, and we are rousing.

As we look upon the far-away gates of Mordor, with its belching smoke and stench of death, we should remember brave Aragorn’s words:

“Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day. This day we fight! For all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!” LOTR, The Return of the King

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin discusses 2009’s underreported stories. Patriot Room has their own list.

Erick says something wicked this way comes and Smitty has cautions for the new year. The enemy, both within and without, is testing us. Read them both.

Double points bonus – Janet “The system worked” Napolitano may be under the bus soon!

The Reason Why

Everything happens for a reason.

The Anchoress is always able to see through the histrionics and find the divine reason behind current, disturbing events.

We’d best prepare ourselves for an America we could not have imagined even 9 years ago, and a world besieged by an ideology that seems to be heading to a victorious ascendancy.

“Seems” being the operative word.

Remember what I said back in November; sometimes bad things have to happen, have to be allowed to happen, before something great can happen in response. This is one of the lessons of the crucifix. Sometimes wholly unjust and destructive things will happen, but it is never the end of the story. The resurrection would not have happened, had the crucifixion not been allowed; not just allowed, but surrendered to and embraced by Jesus.

At first blush Sunday morning, the world was all “So this is how liberty dies; to thunderous applause.” emo-unhappiness. But on further reflection, I see that things, bigger things, have been set in motion. The “present” President, who plays to sycophants and duplicitous media, who hates Americans, and the aforementioned Congress of Not the People provide the jump-start to wake the sleeping giant.

2010 will be verrrry interesting.

Remember, Ecclesiastes 3:
1 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:
2 A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;
3A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away;
7 A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak;
8 A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace.

Prayers for Ft. Hood – UPDATED

Such sadness. Massacre at Ft. Hood – 12 killed, at least 30 injured. At latest reports, the shooter, Major Malik Nadal Hasan, is alive and in custody at a local hospital. A Muslim, unhappy about an impending deployment…jihadi?

So senseless… Pray for the victims, their families, everyone effected. And our clueless President.

“Shout out…” – oh, pullllleeze!

UPDATE: HotAir is rounding up details as they come in.

UPDATE II: Yesterday, during my evening commute, I heard the President’s address over the radio. I am still aghast at his fumbling of the situation.

Even ABC considers Obama’s remarks “insensitive” (yes, you read that correctly A-B-C)

[SIC] The situation cled for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.

But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and, inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a “shout-out” to “Dr. Joe Medicine Crow — that Congressional Medal of Honor winner.” Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?

Anyone at home aware of the major news story of the previous hours had to have been stunned. An incident like this requires a scrapping of the early light banter. The president should apologize for the tone of his remarks, explain what has happened, express sympathy for those slain and appeal for calm and patience until all the facts are in. That’s the least that should occur.

Indeed, an argument could be made that Obama should have canceled the Indian event, out of respect for people having been murdered at an Army post a few hours before. That would have prevented any sort of jarring emotional switch at the event.

Did the president’s team not realize what sort of image they were presenting to the country at this moment? The disconnect between what Americans at home knew had been going on — and the initial words coming out of their president’s mouth was jolting, if not disturbing.

If the president’s communications apparatus can’t inform — and protect — their boss during tense moments when the country needs to see a focused commander-in-chief and a compassionate head of state, it has disastrous consequences for that president’s party and supporters.

UPDATE III: Must read at Patterico – typical of the media’s coverage spin of this horrible event. Do not be distracted. The red flags on this guy where… ahem… glaring. A time bomb. Ed Driscoll also has a long and detailed update. Why is the media concealing information, even as they learn it? It doesn’t fit their news template, stupid! The Homeland Security connection.

UPDATE IV: Doesn’t his people vet anything before it shows up in a speech? Dr. Joe Medicine Crow, the object of Obama’s ill-advised “shout-out,” received a Medal of Freedom from Obama himself, not a Medal of Honor. Sheessh….

Is Obama’s Acceptance of the Nobel Constitutional?

(Sorry, I’m a little late on this, because, well, I’ve been a bit busy lately with life and it’s curveballs.)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Tell me, Mr. President, Mr. Constitutional Scholar, Sir, is there a precedent on a sitting president’s acceptance of awards from foreign interests?

J.P. Feire of the Washington Examiner thinks so…

It looks like the Times editorial page is endorsing the very definition of foreign meddling in domestic affairs. Foreigners validating and then rewarding certain approaches while repudiating others is not appropriate, regardless of whether it’s coming from six nations or six Norwegians.

So what is the propriety of a sitting wartime president accepting an award from a foreign committee that is merely an expression of repudiation for the behavior of his predecessor? It is especially concerning because undoubtedly, Obama’s partisans will use the credential to grant him greater legitimacy in foreign policy among his own people.

That’s an open question. But our democratic system already provides an outlet for such a repudiation, and it is the only kind that matters because it is the will of the American people. All others should be given the Giuliani treatment: Thanks, but no thanks.

This strikes at the heart of what I posted on Friday. The purpose of the discussion of the emoluments clause was to look at the constitutionality of Obama’s acceptance of the prize. Even Teddy Roosevelt made it clear there was a discomfort with the legitimating power of the Nobel committee; Roosevelt refused to accept the prize until his term was up, and even then, he jumped through hoops to work with Congress to determine the use of the prize money.

Indeed, taking out your handy little pocket Constitution from The Heritage Foundation (get your free copy here), we read in Article I, Section 9,

“No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”

Eugene, founder of the Volokh Conspiracy and a real lawyer (he doesn’t just play one on TV) muddies the waters further, like any good lawyer will do. Just read it as a whole – it’s difficult to excerpt without losing the intent of the entire argument. He poses some excellent questions.

Of course, we all know that Obama immediately accepted the award, gushing with false humility. His ego wouldn’t have allowed otherwise, regardless of any question of constitutionality, propriety, or just good-ol’-American-common-sense. Did the Nobel committee have a vision of future and thus hastened the prize, while they still could?

…this is a preemptive prize, because the Committee looked ahead to the insane nuclear winter and global Muslim/non-Muslim war Obama’s fecklessness is bringing into being and they knew: he makes a desert, and calls it peace. Since the Committee can confidently expect that, once Obama does what he does best, there will be no more prizes, now was the time for a preemptive award.

One unanticipated accomplishment was the uniting of the blogosphere altogether. To date, never has the world heard such a collective cyber-“huh?!?” Making history, anyway he can.

While Obama is Obama’s favorite subject, it is too bad he won’t talk about other things…you know things that effect our nation, our security, our sovereignty, our economy, our future. Why attack a network or a radio personality when he should be looking at rogue nations that are planning to attack US. Here. Soon. That is so unpresidential. He could stop so much with just a word, or a caution. But he chooses not to, and therein is the rub. He quietly stokes the destruction.

“Prove that you did not do what I said you did,” is not journalism. It is, frankly, the tactic of the schoolyard bully and the fascist. They are often one and the same. And they’ve learned that once a headline is “out there” retractions and corrections don’t much matter, to the narrative.

Camille Paglia (Salon) notes that Obama’s trusted circle of advisors are, well, shall we say small-minded?

Obama is approaching a turning point which will define his political future, if he has one. He is surrounded by some mighty small potatoes who need shoveling into the dumpster. The petty provincials need to go, and far more sophisticated and world-savvy analysts must urgently be brought on board.

and that the Nobel timing is just awful for him, personally:

It’s true he has accomplished nothing thus far and did not remotely deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, a gift carrying a terrible curse. The Nobel should have been the crown of Obama’s career and not the butt of jokes.

But the Office is not supposed to be about the Man, is it? Has anyone told Obama that yet?

Pull out that handy little pocket Constitution again and look at Article II, Section 1, that last paragraph.

“Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: – ‘I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.'”

That last part isn’t working out so well, either.

Obama’s Latest Squandered Opportunity

911 flags at gt

Yesterday, the eighth anniversary of the murder of 2996 innocent Americans, the unPresidential President had his first real opportunity to patch his sinking ship. An event presented itself, still raw and naked, not related to crippling legislation or unvetted staff or hugging dictators next door; a time and place where he could speak to the nation from his cold and shriveled heart. It is globally known he harbors a consuming hatred of George W. Bush., a distaste so strong that it encourages bad behavior from his followers. But what Obama refuses to see is that even though many Americans despise W for many reasons, his (often private) consolation of the victims and their families in the days (and years) of 9/12 America earned him a place in our collective hearts. He may not have had the right words at the right times, but you could see and feel his grief. And then his anger. His resolve.

Come on, Obama, be the George. Stop looking in the mirror and look out at America. Stop campaigning. Man up; be the Commander in Chief. We the people are still hurt and confused.

In no conflict throughout history were people still confused about the threat eight years after hostilities began. For America, neither WWI nor WWII had lasted half that long. And in those wars we not only achieved victory in that time, but we knew long before that — with crystalline precision — who our foes were and what we had to do to defeat them.

So what did Obama do yesterday? Did he go to church and pray for healing? (Aside: Has he even attended church since he took office?) Did he reiterate the stout American fortitude, focused to track down those responsible for the attacks and dispatch them to their judgment day? Nope, he mumbled some words at the Pentagon (be sure to note the adoration in the linked article, i.e. how the rain stopped just for the Obamas to step outside), then hurried over to paint somebody’s living room. He blew it, again.

What we see clearly now is that Obama is purposefully weakening America. Kryptonite drips from his every word. It’s all part of the plan, stupid.

To Obama, 9/11 has become an inconvenient obstacle to his Castrofication of America.

The PERSONAL horror of that day can fade, as the vivid memory of all pain eventually does – but that DATE and those IMAGES will continue to stand as the very real symbol of why we must remain watchful and to continue to root out and fight evil (no, I don’t shy from that word) wherever it hides, knowing – from very real experience – that to do otherwise will mean pain and death and mourning here at home when that evil next comes to us.

September 11th, 2001 stands as our focus-point for our vigilance, our strength, and our willingness to resist – a symbol paid-for in sacrifice, in loss – a symbol paid for in blood.

Claude Michael Gann – 2996 Tribute

mike gann

Mike Gann was 41 and recently happily remarried when he went to the Risk Waters conference at Windows on the World. He and his wife, Robin, had taken an “elopement” with their kids to the beach and then DisneyWorld just a few months before, but were still waiting to take their real honeymoon.

C. Michael Gann, IM 85, of Roswell, was Atlanta’s first reported casualty. He was at a conference on the 106th floor of the first tower struck. He called his wife, Robin, twice — to tell her what had happened and then to say goodbye; smoke was everywhere and he didn’t think he would make it.

He volunteered to attend the conference, because other Algorithmics employees could not attend. The conference was scheduled to end that day and Mike would have headed home.

Mike grew up in Smyrna, Georgia and attended Wills High School. After graduating from Georgia Tech, IM ’85, he pursued a master’s degree in finance and marketing from Mercer University. He loved his family, his church and his Lord.

Ed Bolduc, director of music ministry for St. Ann’s Life Teen program:

“He was one of the most humble and sincere guys I have ever met in my life,” he said. “As a music minister I truly believe that you don’t just play music, but you pray music. He was a shining example of that. It was really inspiring.”

A former worship leader himself, Mike loved to share his gift:

In the 80s at Atlanta Vineyard I was spoiled to feeling this almost every Sunday when the late Mike Gann led us in worshiping the Lord. He was definitely someone cut in David’s mold. But since that time I’ve found it very rare to be in the presence of a worship leader who knows how to lead people into the “presence of God.”

The city of Roswell has dedicated a plaque in memory of Mike and the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
